SA 8000 Certification . SA8000 is a global social accountability standard for decent working conditions, developed and overseen by Social Accountability International (SAI). Rising public concern about inhumane working conditions in developing countries led to the creation in 1997 of the Council on Economic Priorities Accreditation Agency.
The certification body audit plan shall address all elements of the standard at each location and during all shifts covered by the certificate. The entire management system for SA8000 shall be assessed at a minimum of once every three years.
SAI established one of the world’s preeminent social standards the SA8000 standard for decent work, a tool for implementing international labor standards. Many more workplaces are involved in programs using SA8000 and SAI programs as guides for improvement.
